SCENIC
DRIVES: Rocky Mountain National Park features some
of the best scenic driving in the Colorado Rockies:
-
Trail
Ridge Road follows a path that the Ute and other Native
American peoples used for thousands of years. The trip begins
at Deer Ridge Junction, just above the Beaver Meadows
entrance, and traverses a spectacular alpine landscape en
route to Grand Lake near the west entrance of the park. Reaching
an elevation of over 12,000 feet above sea level, Trail Ridge
Road is the highest continuous highway in the United States.
- Bear
Lake Road is second only to Trail Ridge Road in popularity.
It is used heavily by dayhikers and picnicers wanting to experience
the most spectacular scenery East of the Continental Divide.
- Fall
River Road was the first route over the Continental
Divide that was constructed in the early 1920's. At Endovalley,
the one-way, all-uphill road begins. The Endovalley picnic area
lies adjacent to the Fall River just before you hit the old
road.
SNOW
SKIING: Eldora Ski Area is just an hour and
a half drive
